An award from the NREF can have an extraordinary impact on a neurosurgeon. The recognition that comes from an NREF award can serve as a springboard for future research opportunities, leading to NIH funding and affecting the overall trajectory of a neurosurgical career.
Mohammed Alshareef, MD, of the Medical University of South Carolina received the 2020-21 NREF & AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery & Research Fellowship Grant for his project titled “The Role of Complement in Secondary Injury after Neonatal Germinal Matrix Hemorrhage.”
Dr. Alshareef’s work has now been published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. He shared the news with NREF to show donors the fruit of the work that they supported.
We celebrate Dr. Alshareef and all NREF award recipients making a difference in the field of neurosurgery.
