Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As 2019 comes to a close, I’m reflecting on the events and individuals that have changed the course of neurosurgery, advanced our profession and made a profound difference in the lives of countless patients.
Undoubtedly, we stand on the shoulders of giants.
That is certainly true for the Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF). In Fiscal Year 2019, the generosity of individual donors, industry partners and affiliated organizations allowed the NREF to invest over $1.7 million to provide meaningful education and to empower relevant research. Overall, the NREF has invested over $28 million in the future of neurosurgery.
None of this is possible without your support.
In December 2020, the NREF will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Our mission is to continue providing young neurosurgeons with a springboard to success. In the months to come, we look forward to announcing new programs and partnerships that will take us into the next decade.
It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as chair of the NREF. In 2020, I will pass the baton to our current vice chair, Michael W. Groff, MD, FAANS, who will lead the Foundation and help write the next chapter of our history.
I thank you for including the NREF in your philanthropy. Collectively, we have the power to open doors for neurosurgeons, this generation and the next.
Warmest regards and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year,
Regis W. Haid, Jr., MD, FAANS
