Celebrating the Mentors Moving Neurosurgery Forward

Neurosurgeons are truly fortunate. Neurosurgery is a specialty that encourages the pursuit of technical excellence, academic rigor and patient service. Along the way, neurosurgeons are inspired, taught and empowered by legends in the field. Training with the best leads to success.

Honor Your Mentor (HYM) funds recognize the incredible people who have advanced neurosurgery. Each mentor fund has a specific purpose, and donations fund a chosen research or educational endeavor in the mentor’s name across a variety of subspecialties.

The HYM program started in 2014 with six (6) funds and total pledges of $177,195 from 37 donors. Today, there are 56 HYM funds with pledges totaling over $5.9 million from over 1,700 donors.

We salute the following mentor with a newly established fund:

The Raymond Sawaya Honor Your Mentor Fund will support an annual award for the most successful neurosurgical oncology fellow.

Through the HYM program, hundreds of thousands of dollars in award disbursements have been made. Congratulations to the most recent HYM fund award recipients:

Matthew Helton, MD

Marcus Stephens, MD
