The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and NREF are pleased to collaborate with the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) to provide AANS residents PGY 4 and above the opportunity to further their neurosurgical knowledge and forge friendships among their European counterparts. EANS has opened placements in its European Training Courses in Neurosurgery cycles to AANS residents.
Since 1970, the European Training Courses have established a tradition of providing resident neurosurgical education through four-day courses that cycle through the key topics of vascular neurosurgery, tumor, head injury/functional and spine/peripheral nerves.
Applications are being accepted for the Vascular Course, May 10-13, 2020, in Lake Geneva-Evian, France. AANS residents accepted to this course join the cohort of EANS residents for the Vascular Course only.
The AANS funds round-trip economy travel to France from the resident’s U.S. or Canada-based home program and visa costs, if needed. EANS funds course expenses, including registration, course meals and shared accommodations. Residents need to cover any additional expenses, including, but not limited to, taxis and entertainment. Residents may extend their time in Europe as long as their airfare is equal or less in value than round-trip economy travel for course dates.
Applicants must be a PGY 4-7 and in good standing when the course occurs, be a member of the AANS in good standing and be able to obtain a country-specific visa, if required for travel. A complete application, curriculum vitae (CV) and letters of recommendation must be submitted by October 1, 2019, to be considered.
In cooperation with the AANS, the NREF also offers free Resident & Fellow Education Courses to provide advanced training in topic areas not always covered within neurosurgical residency. Since its inception, the NREF has funded over 80 courses attended by more than 2,000 residents and fellows, with thousands more viewing presentations online. Spaces are limited at these courses, so several courses are available online, free of charge, to neurosurgical residents around the world.
