Edward S. Connolly Fund


Fund Purpose: To be utilized for clinical outcome studies, clinical or basic science research and fellowships in spine.

Edward S. Connolly, MD, FAANS(L), was born in Omaha, Neb. in 1934. He attended Creighton Preparatory School, Stanford University and Creighton Medical School. After receiving his medical degree in 1960, he participated in a surgical internship and completed a year of general surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He then entered neurosurgery residency at UCSF, finishing training in 1968. He stayed on the neurosurgery faculty at the University of California until 1972, when he became the chairman of the department of neurosurgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans.


Dr. Connolly was professor of neurosurgery at Louisiana State University Medical School and clinical professor at Tulane University Medical School. He was a member on the board of management of the Ochsner Clinic and served as a member of the executive committee of the board of trustees of the Ochsner Medical Foundation. He also was a founding member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS)/Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves and served both as treasurer and chair. He was a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and served as the president of the AANS. Dr. Connolly was also a member of the Neurosurgical Society of America. Until his death in 2014, he was serving as a member on the board of the largest savings and loan institution in Louisiana.
