Veena D. Mummaneni Fund

Fund Purpose: To fund an Award for outstanding woman resident or fellow to present a top rated abstract at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting.

Veena D. Mummaneni, MD, was born in February 1947 in Vijayawada, India. She attended college and medical school at Osmania University in Hyderabad, India. She then trained in Ireland and Chicago as an obstetrician/gynecologist.

In 1980, Dr. Veena Mummaneni opened a solo OB/GYN practice in Oxnard, California. She served the community in Oxnard and Ventura for 37 years as a practicing OB/GYN, and she delivered thousands of children during that time at St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard and Ventura Community Memorial Hospital. She loved her work and enjoyed being a part of the joy of welcoming babies into the world. She previously served as Chairwoman of the OB/GYN department and was elected as “Doctor of the Year” at St. John’s Hospital in 2015.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mummaneni was a strong proponent of women physicians. The NREF Veena Mummaneni-WINS Residents and Fellows Award will celebrate an outstanding young female neurosurgeon with an award to be presented at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting.

She passed away on January 21, 2020 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of the past 50 years, Dr. Prasad Mummaneni, her two sons, Dr. Praveen Mummaneni and Bobby Mummaneni, their wives and five grandchildren.
